Trudeau minister says leftist state-owned CBC good guide to identify ‘fake news’

(LifeSiteNews) — Justin Trudeau’s Liberal minister of democratic institutions recommended the state-funded Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as a guide for discerning what is “fake news” in the lead-up to the country’s October 21 general election.

Minister Karina Gould tweeted a reference to a CBC article in July on how to spot online “disinformation” and “misinformation” just days before the Trudeau government published a cabinet directive July 9 finalizing the “Critical Election Incident Public Protocol” it announced in January.

An analysis on True North of the CBC guide asserted that it “lacks evidence that ‘fake news’ is a serious threat in Canada” and “only seems to give examples from right-wing sources, leaving readers in the dark about the threat of misinformation from the Left.”

As for the Critical Election Incident Public Protocol, it sets out “a simple, clear and impartial process by which Canadians would be notified of a threat to the integrity of the 2019 General Election,” according to the ministry of democratic institution’s website.

The protocol comes into effect after the writ is dropped and Parliament dissolves, and a panel of “experienced senior Canadian public servants” will be responsible for deciding if or when a misinformation campaign or cyber-attack constitutes a threat to the election.

The panel includes the clerk of the Privy Council, the national security and intelligence adviser to the prime minister, the deputy minister of justice and deputy attorney general, the deputy minister of public safety, and the deputy minister of foreign affairs.

All of this is “insanity” that should have Canadians “alarmed”, says Gwen Landolt, lawyer and vice president of the pro-family advocacy group REAL Women of Canada.

“Trudeau and the CBC are known for their own ‘fake news’,” she told LifeSiteNews.

“Whatever they do, you know they’ll do to promote Trudeau and the Liberals, both the party and the CBC, and you can never rely on their advice on anything with regard to media.”

Landolt blasted the Liberal Critical Election Incident Public Protocol as “utterly, profoundly undemocratic” and says it “indicates a lack of critical analysis” on the part of the Trudeau Liberals, which she described as “ruthless” in their attempts to get re-elected.

“If Trudeau doesn’t get back in, there’s going to be all sorts of questions about interfering in the election,” she warned. “If there aren’t any they’ll find them for sure.”

As well as CBC receiving $1.5 billion annually, from Canadian taxpayers, it must not be forgotten that the Liberals included a nearly “$600 million media bail-out scheme” in their November budget, Landolt said.

Controversy over the five-year bailout, which comes in the form of tax breaks and subsidies, intensified in May when the Liberals announced that the union Unifor was one of eight groups invited to form a panel to decide which media were trustworthy enough to be subsidized, CTV News reported at the time.

Unifor, which represents 11,900 people in the media as well as auto, retail, manufacturing, education, and hospitality workers, has called itself Conservative Party leader Andrew Scheer’s “worst nightmare,” it reported.

True to form, Unifor ran ads during the Toronto Raptors’ NBA playoff games that compared Scheer unfavorably to Ontario premier Doug Ford, Landolt said.

The Liberals also passed Election Modernization Act in December, which took effect July 1.

Its new third-party reporting requirements forced Campaign Life Coalition, Canada’s national pro-life political lobbying group, to disable its website that publicly listed candidates’ views on abortion.

“Campaign Life Coalition is not willing or able to trigger Third Party Advertising rules, so our federal election resources will no longer be publicly available until after the October 21st election,” the website reads.

“Once our new, member-only system is created, we will let our private supporters and donors know so that they can once again access our important voter guide resources through the private system,” the Campaign Life website states.

“Or you can just check this website again in a week or two, to access it as a private CLC member. We thank you for your understanding and patience during this transition period!”
