BC Conservatives Surge, BC United Struggles in Recent Polls
TCS Wire
The political scene in British Columbia is witnessing some notable shifts, according to new Léger polling.
The BC NDP continues to maintain its lead, albeit with a 4% decrease, now standing at 44%.
The significant news, however, is the sudden surge in the BC Conservative Party’s popularity, rising from 2% to 16%.
BC United, formerly known as the BC Liberals, has traditionally played a moderate, centre-right role in BC politics. However, it appears to be quickly losing ground.
BC United has experienced a 7% drop in support, now sitting at 27%. The BC Greens are also down by 4%, bringing their current support to 11%.
These shifts indicate that moderates and conservatives alike appear to be migrating towards the BC Conservatives as BC United struggles to retain their base.
Interesting trends
A regional breakdown reveals interesting trends as well. While Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island both show an NDP lead, the rest of BC presents a tighter race, with the NDP leading at 36%, followed closely by BC United at 32%, the Conservatives at 21%, and the Greens at 8%.
As BC United numbers bleed and Conservative Party support rises, British Columbia’s political landscape may be on the cusp of a significant transformation.
