Ontario voter support for Conservatives soars to 51 percent in recent poll

Conservatives are way ahead of Liberals and the New Democratic Party in Canada’s most populous province, according to a Leger poll.

(LifeSiteNews) — If a Canadian federal election were held today, results from a new poll show Pierre Poilievre’s Conservative Party would grab 51 percent of the votes in Ontario alone, the highest number recorded.

The Leger poll is the first mainstream poll to post results after New Democratic Party (NDP) leader Jagmeet Singh pulled his official support for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberals on September 4.

In Ontario, which is Canada’s most populous province with 121 MPs alone, 51 percent of those polled said if an election were held now, they would vote Conservative. Only 25 percent said they would vote Liberal, with 17 saying they would vote NDP.

Overall, 45 percent of Canadians said they would vote Conservative, with the Liberals coming in second with 25 percent followed by the NDP at 15 percent. This is the highest amount of support the Conservatives have had overall in over a decade.

The separatist Bloc Quebecois Party, which only has candidates in Quebec, has 8 percent of votes overall. However, in Quebec alone, it has the most support at 34 percent. Conservatives and Liberals are tied at 25 percent.

The poll results also revealed that most Canadians, two of three or 65 percent, as per Leger are “not confident in Justin Trudeau’s leadership in continuing to govern Canada without the support of the NDP.”
