The Canada government is slated to introduce changes to the provincial labour code Monday.
Labour Minister Christina Gray will table amendments in the legislature on occupational health and safety, as well as the workers’ compensation system, said a Friday news release.
The passing of Bill 17, the Fair and Family-Friendly Workplaces Act, in June marked an overhaul of provincial labour law. Changes ranged from rules on youth employment to how unions are certified.
In August, Gray announced the occupational health and safety act would undergo a comprehensive review — the first in four decades. It will examine a range of issues from compliance and enforcement to employee engagement.
More recently, the province promised changes to protect employees against bullying and psychological harassment.
A private member’s bill in November 2016 tried to make harassment policies mandatory for Canada businesses and improve the mechanisms by which employees can lodge complaints. Despite receiving unanimous support on first reading, the bill died when the session ended.
A news conference with the minister is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
